Trees and Powerlines

Trees and Powerlines

A lot of power outages are caused by falling trees or branches that come in contact with electrical lines.

Falling trees and branches can cause wires to break or sag to the ground, presenting a danger to motorists and pedestrians. The shape, size and growth rate of trees determine how often they need to be trimmed. Generally we recommend keeping 10 feet of clearance on all sides of power lines. Directional pruning conditions trees to grow away from power lines by removing only the branches that come in contact with the wires. By selectively trimming a tree's branches, we can retain much of the tree's natural crown.

Tree trimming is a job for trained, highly skilled professionals who use the proper tools and safety practices. Note: Never attempt to trim a tree a near electrical wires yourself unless you have professional training.
